HPHA is lucky to have approximately 500 volunteers who give their time and talents to our organization! Not only do volunteers support and complement the work of our professional staff, they also provide hospitality, governance and fundraising services. From the Board Room to the Bedside each of our Volunteers makes a difference to the HPHA experience!
Volunteer Spotlight: Bernice - St. Marys Memorial Hospital
How long have you volunteered at HPHA?
I have been volunteering for four years.
What programs do you volunteer for?
I volunteer throughout the hospital: in the Inpatient Unit, the Physiotherapy Program and Emergency Department. I train new volunteers and I also help with the bedside patient surveys. I am also an Auxiliary and Unit Action Council member!
What is involved in your volunteer role?
Assisting the nursing staff with patient care, contributing at meetings, working in the Gift Shop, training volunteers and helping patients complete surveys.
Why did you want to be a volunteer at HPHA & what do you like best about volunteering at HPHA?
I love volunteering and caring for others . It's so gratifying knowing you have helped make someone's life a bit better. By volunteering you not only help others, you will help yourself as well. We all win when we volunteer!
When you aren't volunteering at HPHA, what do you like to do?
I walk daily and enjoy time with family and friends. I love music and play guitar! I like to dance, go our for dinner and go to the theatre. I also enjoy boating and spending time at the Beach. And I love to cook and travel! I am a Member of the McConnell Club and I work part time at Kingsway Lodge.
