Your blood type determines who you can donate to, or receive blood from. People with type O negative (O-) are considered universal donors, as they can donate red blood cells to all other blood type recipients. That’s why it’s always in high demand — it’s used in emergency situations when there is no time to test a patient’s blood type. Source: Canadian Blood Services

Together We Can Make a Difference

Connecting the Dots for Caregivers is asking all healthcare and service provider organizations in Huron Perth to join us in a community-wide pledge to support family caregivers by implementing the Time to Talk Toolkit.

A caregiver is a family member, friend, or neighbour who provides personal, social, psychological and physical support, assistance and care for a family member or friend in need.

The role is 24-hours, seven days a week and it is known to have far reaching impacts on a caregiver’s physical and mental health, their ability to work, their personal finances and their relationships with family and friends.

Caregivers are tired and frustrated. Caregivers need our help.

Connecting the Dots for Caregivers is working to improve the caregiver experience. Together, with family caregivers and health care providers, we created the Time to Talk Toolkit.

The toolkit includes posters, a brochure, an e-Learning video and other information that explains the challenges family caregivers face in their role. It provides information that will help your staff in their interactions with family caregivers.

The toolkit is easy to use and healthcare and service provider agencies who are already using it say it’s making a difference.

We hope you’ll join us and take the pledge to make family caregivers a priority. The toolkit will be made available after the events.

It's been almost a year since Connecting the Dots for Caregivers first set out to talk to caregivers across Huron Perth. We've come so far since those first meetings!

Click here to read this month's newsletter for an update on the project and a great article from Pauline Linton, a healthcare provider, who reflects on her experience on co-design team one and how it’s changed her practice.
